The American Black cherry tree (Prunus serotina) has a particularly beautiful, clearly darker heartwood than its relative, the native German cherry tree. It is just as finely grained, fine-pored, the fine medullary rays appear as brightly shining mirrors on the surface and made this wood look very noble. The colour of American cherry ranges from light yellowish brown, intensely reddish to deep dark reddish brown, clearly contrasting against the lighter sapwood. The wood always looks very elegant, often shows interlocked figures, large curls and looks particularly noble with its matt sheen.
