Spanish cedar, Cedro (Cedrela odorata) neither originates from Spain, nor is a member of the cedar family: the wood got its name from the Spanish sailors, who brought the cedar-like smelling wood from South America to European seaports in the 16th century: hence the name 'Spanish cedar' was born. It soon became famous for its marvelous properties: not only was it unaffected by insects, it also regulated humidity and smelled extremely delicious, having a mild aromatic fragrance. So it became the first choice wood for cigar and tobacco containers, and this appreciation remaines until this day! There is no other wood like genuine Cedro for cigar humidors. The wood is a member of the Meliaceae family and a true mahogany relative. Elegant, lightweight yet sturdy wood for any shape of stick or cane!
