European lime trees (Tilia spp) are spread throughout northern to central Europe, and they even grow in the US. They are commonly known as linden trees, deriving from the German word Linden. The trees can grow very old, some trees are reported up to 100 years of age. Their wood is quite bright, ranging from pale white to bright yellow, sometimes reddish hues can be seen. Lime wood is very famous for its dimensional stability, lots of wood sculptors preferred this wood for their sacral sculptural works since gothic times. These blanks come from old stock and are thoroughly dry, perfect for carvings and other fine woodworking!
