The red elm (Ulmus procera) has a very attractive hard wood with a wide range of colors. It can have many different colors from yellowish pale to glowing red to rich dark brown colours. A disease, caused by fungi, which was rampant throughout Europe, decimated the elm population quite considerably, making the wood a rare species. The wood is excellent to turn and is a classic for woodturners because of its vivid grain. Please note that elm burl wood almost always has minor imperfections as small holes or cracks in its structure!
