Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) trees grow in most parts of Europe, where they form really huge trees. Ash burl wood is swirly cream-coloured with burls and very attractive curly structure. Ash is a very hard and dense wood, yet quite flexible. Aged and mature trees develop a nice brown heartwood that resembles olive wood (Olive-ash) Ash burls grown in France like these are extremely fine and wild figured, showing unique gobbled and contorted grain structure! Ash burl may contain small holes, hairline cracks, gum pockets and bark inclusions as common with all burls. These may be filled easily and quick with thin super glue and saw dust.
