Black and white ebony (Diospyros embryopteris) is also called royal white ebony and comes from Myanmar (Burma) and Laos on to the market in very small quantities only. The wood is very dense like all true ebonies and shows a terrific structure with black lines on nearly white ground- no other wood is similar. Due to its restricted availabilities its one of the worlds greatest rarities. Most pieces of black and white ebony usually have a few tiny (< 1 mm) pinholes that belong to the typical appearance, and/or hairline checks, the wood tends to crack, so please always keep end grain sealed!
