Beech, copper beech (Fagus sylvatica) is certainly not one of the typical precious woods and is not really to be found in our store. This piece from a really old stock has earned its place in our store through decades of storage. The European beech is mainly native to Germany, Denmark and Hungary; the distribution area extends west from France, England and Ireland to the east of the Vistula, from Norway in the north to Sicily in the south. The wood is scattered-pored with numerous fine visible vessels. The annual rings are usually clearly recognizable, they have many broad, shiny and sharply protruding medullary rays, which appear as bright shiny or dark matt brown bands or patches of varying width in the mirror section.
