Almond trees (Prunus amygdalus) are native to south Europe, a lot of Mallorca visitors will have seen the spectacular Almond tree blossom during February there: this is a really spectacular event in springtime! The trees have been cultivated over thousands of years, they are often mentioned in the holy bible, giving wood, resin, almonds and oil to mankind. The wood of the usually small tree is hard, has yellow to light brown colour with dark brown heartwood, its tendency to warp and crack is as legendary as its use by craftsmen in south Europe: bigger pieces are a real rarity!
