The cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is an evergreen tree characteristic of the Mediterranean region, which can have very different growth forms. The most distinctive are the columnar forms up to 20 meters high, which are particularly common in Tuscany. The (weeping) cypress originates from Asia Minor, but is now widespread throughout the Mediterranean region and is also known as the Italian cypress or Mediterranean cypress. Cypresses can reach up to 20 meters height and sometimes get very old, 500 to 800 years.  Cypress wood has been highly valued since ancient times for its high durability, statues of gods, temple doors, sarcophagi and ships were made of it. Its durability was as great as that of the much rarer true cedar. Due to its intense, lemony fresh smell, it was particularly suitable for chests and cabinets, and the fabrics stored in them were safe from moth damage. Typical of the wood, in addition to its light color, are numerous small pin knots, but firmly attached. Cypress wood is light (around 600 kg/m3) and is widely used for wooden constructions, musical instruments, guitars, furniture, boat building and turnery. The smell of cypress wood even after years of drying is very pleasant and aromatic-spic
