Silver Wattle, (Acacia dealbata) originates from south-east Australia, but the tree is now planted worldwide in suitable climates as an ornamental tree. It gots its name Silver Acacia from its hoarfrosty silvery leaf surface, which reflects the sunlight with a silvery sheen and thus helps to reduce the evaporation of water. The fast-growing, medium-sized tree produces high-quality timber of high density and hardness. Its wood is lighter in color than that of some denser and slower-growing Acacia species such as the Hawaiian Koa or Blackwood. The color ranges from light brown, pale pink and rust red to brown striped areas, always with clearly defined stripes following the pronounced growth rings. The fine-pored hard wood is popular with furniture designers because it has an attractive appearance and is easy to work with. It offers a striking visual contrast to blackwood, a closely related type of acacia wood. The wood is easy to work with and can be easily polished to a smooth, glossy finish.
