Curly or fiddleback maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) finest qualities come from Scotland, Bosnia and South Germany and are very much sought after by fiddle and guitar makers. Its special structure is formed by parallel lines of wavy grain showing the unique structure that has been so appreciated for hundreds of years. These figures can be easily enhanced by staining and sanding. The stain penetrates into the figured grain more deeply than the surrounding area. The result is a darker figure against a very bright background.
