Burma-Padouk (Pterocarpus macrocarpus) also called Burma-Padauk, Mai-Pradoo, grows in Myanmar (Burma), Thailand and Vietnam and is closely related to African Padauk, which is well known in Germany for its bright red colour. It is a heavy and hard wood, weighs approx. 900 kg/m3 and is highly valued in its home countries because of its universally good properties. It is rather fine-pored and straight-grained, the wood is pale red salmon to dark brick red, often streaked with dark brown stripes, generally less colour intensive than African padouk. When fresh wood is processed, a pleasantly sweet and very strongly spicy aromatic scent is created. Burma-Padauk is used as wood for interior and exterior furnishing and construction, for boat building, on building sites for frames, as parquet, in fine furniture making and for musical instruments.
