Karelian curly birch, also called Masur birch (Betula pendula var. carelica) comes from North Finland and Russia, where it is very appreciated and sought for. The attractive irregularity in structure only appears in a few trees among a lot of normal or poor figured birch trees. Very fine figured wood is the classical material for Scandinavian knifes.
