Tzalam (Lysiloma bahamensis) is the wood of a large tree growing in Mexico in the Yucatan region and in Guatemala, whose wood is similar to that of the American walnut tree. The heartwood has a light to dark brown colour, often covered with a grey-red to violet hue, and clearly set off against a cream-coloured sapwood. The decorative Tzalam wood is hard and dense (approx. 800 kg/m3), and usually shows a slightly shiny surface after fine sanding. Its grain is rather simple and straight-grained, interlocked growth occurs more often and gives the wood an especially fine appearance.. You will get excactly the depicted blank.
