Lacewood (Roupala cordifolia) is a very neat and attractive exotic wood, that is used for precious and decorative small boxes, intarsia, turning, knife and gun scales. It comes from South American tropical forests and is rather scarce.Lacewood posesses one of the most unique grain patterns of all exotic woods and is most easily recognized by its large medullary rays, looking like stringed pearls on a line. These are only visible when wood is quartersawn. The grain is quite straight, light reddish-orange-brown and course textured. It finishes extremely well, just a few applications of oil turns on an attractive semigloss.
