The staghorn sumac tree (Rhus typhina) is a very widespread fast-growing, short-lived beautiful small tree, that produces very attractive wood. Sumac heartwood is olive-green, greenish yellow to russet brown with dark streaks, light weighted and not too hard and has a very attractive high luster. Due to its short lifetime large diameters are extremely rare, 15 to 20 cm is very much already.
The wood dries fast and well and is easy to be worked with, due to its restricted availability it has always been a highly esteemed wood for turnings and small works of handicrafts.
