Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) is the wood of a tree of the eucalypt family growing in Australia. The trees grow on the south-east coast of Australia from Queensland to Victoria. They grow about 30 m high, are known for their masses of honey-scented flowers, which are visited by wild bees that extract honey from the nectar for a famous honey, so the tree is also called Honey Box. It has probably the most beautiful and finely grained wood in Australia. It is extremely dense, heavy (about 1100 kg/m3) and fine-grained. The wood is very strong and hard, resistant to all natural pests, can be turned and worked well with sharp tools, finely sanded surfaces become very smooth and can be polished to a beautiful shine. The wood is used for didgeridoos, and is also popular as building and construction timber, rarely just for furniture. As firewood it is much sought after because of its high density and calorific value. Burls of this tree are usually spectacularly grained with eye-shaped patterns, they belong to the rarities of the timber trade. Beautiful burl cap, finest figure and grain for a bowl with natural edge! You will get excactly the depicted blank.
