Purpleheart (Peltogyne paniculata) also called purple or violet wood, comes from Suriname, Guyana and Mexico. When freshly cut, it is initially dull gray, but this color quickly turns into a beautiful deep purple when exposed to air and light. The wood is very hard, dense and very heavy. Because it is quite rare and therefore precious, it is used only for the highest quality small and fine woodwork. Please do not be surprised if the wood looks gray at first after processing: the beautiful color reappears after sun and air exposure over night and turns into a vivid purple. It has little figure and even texture, it is very hard and heavy and works well.B-grade, the colour is a little weak for amaranth, the wood quality otherwise unimpaired!
