Box elder Maple or ash-leaved maple (Acer negundo) originally comes from North America and now is spread all over central Europe. The trees wood shows white, creamy to light brown colour with very characteristic reddish streaks, that occur after fungal attacks by Fusarium negundi. The wood is quite soft, the burls show very fine irregular tight grain patterns, no two are alike. The grain pattern can be enhanced by staining and sanding. The stain penetrates the irregular figured wood more deeply than straight grained wood. The result is a darker figure against a very tight background. Spectacular fine figured and wild coloured burl!
