Angelim, Andira St. Martin rouge Pen Blank 120 x 20 x 20 mm

Angelim, Andira (Andira coriacea) also referred to as Red Cabbage bark, Batseed or Koraro, is a wood native to the Caribbean Islands and South America. This hard and heavy wood, which can grow up to very large trees, is dark reddish brown in color and has a remarkable coarse pore structure resulting from alternating hard grain and soft parenchyma. In this way it may look similar to Red Palm wood, but its even density makes it easier to work with. This exceptionally special wood originates from a forest that is currently underwater - in the creation of the Brokopondo Reservoir in the 1960's approx. 10 million cubic meters of uncut, unvalued wood was submerged. Since 2004 these trees have been harvested with compressed air powered chainsaws, cut to boards in local saw mills and after carefully drying are now successfully on the market.
