The pear tree (Pyrus communis) is common to nearly all regions of middle Europe, its one of the most beautiful domestic timbers. The trees grows up to 15 m in height and 80 cm diameter is not unusual. The exceptionally fine, smooth and even texture make this very dense wood ideal for all fine woodworking, it is perfect for carving, turning, ornamental objects and pens. The colour ranges from bright golden yellow to light brown; when steamed, it takes on a bright reddish colour. Quite often beautiful figures as fiddleback, mottled and a violet black false heartwood make the wood even more attractive!
