Olivewood (Olea europaea) comes from Mediterranean regions, Italy, Greece and Middle East. The trees grow very slowly, can reach thousand years of age, their wood is one of the most beautiful woods of the world. Colour and structure variy so much that its hard to describe: the sapwood is creamy bright golden-yellow, the heartwood shows unique figures like fiddle back, burl and wavy structures in brown to rich greenish brown, reddish salmon pink colour, streaked with dark brown lines and shows very nice contrast. Due to its slow growth the wood is hard and heavy, but it cuts and carves very well, it emits fine fragrance when working. These blanks were cut from wild olive trees and have particular fine and narrow figured grain as shown on photos.
