Movingui (Distemonanthus benthamianus) is a stunning and noble yellow to orange coloured wood from Western Africa and very much looks like true East Indian Satinwood, especially when Movingui has a special grain pattern sometimes called bees wing, mottled or friseé as with this piece of wood here. The sapwood is pale yellow, almost like the heartwood, which is only deeper in color, it sometimes has dark streaks. Movingui shows a deep and intensive brilliant shine when polished. The grain can be irregular, producing the most appreciated figure like genuine Satinwood from India. Some dealers call it Nigerian Satinwood, but that‘s phony of course, because this term is only used to enhance the woods value. Because of its resiliency it is used in a great variety of applications-try to work on it, you will love it!You will get the depicted blank.
