Medang burls come from a large group of trees (Nothaphoebe spp.) belonging to the Lauraceae family from SE Asia, Borneo, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. A lot of different trees are compiled under this name, so the woods properties and colours may range in a wide variety: from a light straw-colour or silver-grey over golden yellow to yellow-green, even light red may occur. The wood is quite light weighted (400-850 kg/m3), although it is sufficiently hard enough for most purposes.Once polished, medang burl wood reveals all its beautiful and eye-catching optical properties, that makes it incomparable to any other wood: it shows a really warm and silky gloss with unbelievable depth and stunning 3-D effects.
