Andrampotsy, also called Manoka jaune in its native region of Fanola, comes from a small evergreen tree (Asteropeia rhopaloides) that only grows in Madagascar. This wood is fairly unknown elsewhere because it is seldom exported. In Madagascar it is widely used for construction work, railroad sleepers, furniture and floorings. The wood is extremely dense, heavy and hard (ca. 1200 kg/m3) and has a beautiful warm golden yellow colour, contrasting with pale white sapwood. It is close-grained and shows beautiful surfaces, which easily takes polish through fine sanding and rubbing. We dug out a small amount of this rare wood from an old stock of a wood trader and now offer this wood to wood collectors.
