Grenadill, African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) ist often mistakenly considered as a kind of ebony, but it belongs to the rosewood family. It comes mainly from Mozambique, Africa. Colour is dark purplish brown with black streaks, giving a nearly black effect. It is an exceptionally dense, very hard and heavy (ca. 1400 kg/m3) wood, slightly oily with fine texture. It finishes exceptionally well but really it does not require any finish. These flawless blanks are tonewood quality
