Red Elm trees (Ulmus procera) grow in northern and central Europe. The wood can show very different colours, from a pale creamy yellow over ruby red shades to a dark, rich brown. highly figured burl wood is rather rare, as most of these trees develop straight and simple grained stems. Elm trees are beginning to get scarce as a disease has caused great damage to the natural population of this species. The wood is highly decorative and shows fine patterns all over. Well suited for decorative bowls and carvings. Please be aware, that Elm burls almost always have small holes in the grain!
