Ebony (Diospyros crassiflora) is an all time favourite of woodworkers since ancient times, already the Egyptians used it due to its brilliant appearance and good qualities. It usually has very straight and fine texture with metallic lustre, finishes smoothly and takes a high glossy polish. West African ebony colour is generally black but very often typical lighter streaks may appear, giving the wood yet more attractivity.
