The Camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) comes from Taiwan, Japan and some parts of China and is a member of the Laurel family. The wood shows beautiful grain patterns and finishes very well, highlighting the different colours of the timber. Camphor wood has a really pungent, strong aromatic but lovely smell and its yellowish wood, often with red striping makes it particularly suitable for carving, furniture and woodturning- it works exceptionally well. Old sailors sea chests were often made of exotic camphor wood, as no insects, woodworms or whatever would attack this wood. Camphor wood is a hard to find rarity in Europe, a must have for every wood collector! You will get the depicted blank. Small holes, hairline cracks, gum pockets and bark inclusions as common with all burls may be filled easily and quick with thin super glue and saw dust.
