Bubinga (Guibourtia tessmannii) comes from Cameroon, Gabon, and Equatorial West Africa. This very rare and extremely fine figured wood shows three dimensional (quilted) figures along the grain, caused by wavy growth patterns and is called bubinga pommelé. The very hard, heavy and dense wood is of light red to violet colour with purple stripes and shows a deep red silky gloss. It is fine grained and takes a high lustrous finish.The wood is primarily used as a veneer for cabinetwork, furniture and panelling, but also used for knife handles and other fancy goods.
