Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) is an evergreen, very slow-growing deciduous tree that rarely reaches the size of a tree in our latitudes, but can be found everywhere as a shrub. It is the hardest and heaviest native wood and is highly valued in instrument making (wind instruments, pegs and fingerboards of especially historical string and plucked instruments), for chess pieces, pipe heads, handles, tools and in model making. The wood is considered a dream wood for the finest turnery work.
