Box elder or ash-leaved maple (Acer negundo) originally comes from North America and now is spread all over central Europe. The wood shows white, creamy to light brown colour with very characteristic reddish streaks, that occur after fungal attacks by Fusarium negundi. The wood is quite soft, the burls show really fine irregular tight grain patterns. The grain can be enhanced by staining and sanding, when stain penetrates the irregular figured wood more deeply than straight grained wood. The result is a darker figure against a light background.
