This piece of Gimlet Burl burl wood comes from the Australian Gimlet Tree (Eucalyptus Salubris) from the goldfields of Western Australia, a very dry region. The tree has a characteristic reddish brown or greenish bark, which is shiny and smooth. The structure of the burls is striking with naturally occurring cracks, they have a wide range of different shades from brown to dark red. The wood has very fine pores, is dense and hard, and can be easily turned and worked with sharp tools. Finely sanded surfaces become very smooth and can be polished to a beautiful shine. Tiny holes, as usual with all eucalyptus wood, can easily be filled with a drop of superglue! You will get the depicted blank!
